2012 Challenge Skateboards Exhibition at Voxfire Gallery

On the 17th of May, from 6pm to 9pm, Voxfire Gallery – located at Aberdeen Street in the heart of the city of Hong Kong, held the VIP opening party to press and perspective buyers. A crowd of roughly 30 people showed up and enjoyed a glass of champagne and nibbles as they perused through the gallery looking at the fantastic array of skateboard art. Also showcased in the exhibition were the two commissioned pieces for skullcandy headphones, pieces created by Peter Yuill (a beautiful display of colors on a set of skullcandy headphones) and NOMATTSLAND (a sculpture created from clay, wire and two skullcandy headphones).

On the eve of the 18th of May, Voxfire Gallery opened the space for the official public opening party, serving white and red wine, beer, energy drinks, chips and specially-made vodka gummy bears. A crowd of over 100 people showed up throughout the night, filling the small gallery to the point of overflowing and out onto the streets. It was an eclectic mix of art lovers, from restaurant owners, lawyers, fellow artists, corporate heads, and celebrities. A wonderful time had by all, it was definitely a night to remember. Curators Christian Keith and Matt Bailey were exhausted by the end of the night as were the owners and assistants of Voxfire Gallery. A job well done by all. The show now runs until the 23rd of June. - KOBO

Sticker Mania

This is the back of my door. Sticker mania was unleashed throughout the years. Whats great about stickers is its a testiment of how long you have skated just by the different stickers. I have been collecting since I started some  are classics that you cant get any more . Some are newer and just define who i am today meaning I could of been ghetto, hesh, metal by the stickers I got at that period in my skateboard life. Its so amazing that just a simple stiker can provide so much information about a skateboarder and his or her life.

Mike Anderson

When you start skating who was the biggest influence on you ?

My older brother Cainan is the reason why I started skateboarding. I wanted to be “cool” like him

What videos got u hyped to skate when you started ?

My friend had Thrill of it All and Welcome to Hell.  I liked those. I didn’t get videos for awhile.

Who were your first sponsors ?

Five Points skateshop, skate street used to let me skate for free when it was around. That was cool!

How did Krooked come about ?

Van Wastell

What’s it like getting to hang with the Gonz ?

Mark is a great person.  Almost impossible to describe. Makes you feel like a little kid again running around the streets with your buddy getting into trouble… Good trouble.

How is it now, you have a kid were you like time to get serious and do this thing being pro ?

Skateboarding is still the same.  Just try not to use the hangover excuse as much these days.  Skate as much as possible on trips so I can have some family time when I’m home, but still go skate almost everyday.

Were you bummed eS was going out and how did this effect your thinking did you start freaking out a bit ?

I learned what anxiety attacks are.  Was ready to pick up the hammer.  Made me really appreciate everything I’ve gotten through skateboarding even more

You found a new home at Converse, How did that happen?

I have really good friends

You just dropped a new line for Matix, How did the Matix x Krooked callab coming about ?

Everyone loves collabos right?  It just makes sense

What is one of your favorite tours you been on lately ?

#andersonsinasia.  Me and Kenny Anderson went out to Macau, Phillipinees and China with Dave Hoang and Jon Culthard.  Such a fun trip.  Just four of us, how can you not have a good trip

Who is your favorite tour buddy?

My daughter, but we only go on family trips though

I saw you at Tampa pro this year, What you think about it and this year seemed like everyone was out ?

I think with all the madness of these crazy mainstream contests that are throwing all kinds of money around and treating skateboarding like a slam dunk contest.  A lot of us are becoming much more appreciative of the real skate contests.  Especially Tampa Pro.  That is as real as skateboarding as it gets as far as contests go.

Favorite pro today that your hyped on ?

Vincent Alvarez

Who do you think is next up and coming am?

Jake Anderson

What’s up now for you any tours or videos coming up ?

Krooked stuff?  We’ll see?

Any last words ,shout outs words of wisdom ?

Enjoy skateboarding. – B.Hess
